What is Porter's Call?

Porter's Call exists to provide a safe and confidential refuge where touring and performing recording artists may receive support and encouragement specifically attuned to their unique profession with zero financial obligation. While our Porters are professionally trained as counselors, we offer a more tailored approach through advocacy, guidance, mentorship, life coaching, and friendship in support of artists in the music industry and their significant others. (Disclaimer: We are not equipped for crisis intervention, nor are we a traditional counseling center. If you need ongoing weekly or intensive therapeutic counseling, we can offer a wide range of referrals who can provide more consistent support alongside the care you may be able to receive at Porter's Call.) What is a Porter?

Merriam-Webster defines Porter as: 1) a person stationed at a door or gate to admit or assist those entering 2) a person who carries burdens In early Benedictine monasteries, a Porter would greet visitors at the door, call out a welcome, and invite them to unburden and rest while providing guidance, comfort, and care. From this ancient tradition, we derived our name. We are modern-day Porters. Initial below:

Who is eligible for 1-on-1 services at Porter’s Call?

Porter’s Call offers 1-on-1 guidance to those pursuing a vocation as musical artists who promote their own original music via active touring and/or performing. Below are descriptions of the specifics regarding our eligibility requirements. We aim to serve artists (and their partners) whose career fits the following profile. Initial below:

Eligible applicants (and/or their partner) may be either signed to a record label or independently responsible for releasing their own original music under their own name, stage name, or as a legal owner/member of a duo, trio or group.

Original music is defined as copyrighted music written/co-written, played, recorded, and/or performed under the name/stage name of the artist/group themselves. Cover material will not be considered eligible. Initial below:

Eligible applicants (and/or their partner) must be actively touring their own original music with at least 20 shows annually.

Touring is defined as any public performance held in a concert venue, recital hall, sporting arena, festival, amphitheater, university/college, restaurant/bar/pub, house shows, etc., where the artist is performing in front of a live audience. Initial below:

Eligible applicants (and/or their partner) must earn their primary income from live performances, publishing, royalties, merchandise sales, sync, and/or streaming.

I play in a band. Does that make me eligible?

If you (or your significant other) are a legal partner and permanent member in a duo, trio, or group and you meet the criteria above, you are eligible. If you are performing with a band/group on a contract basis as a musician for-hire, you are not eligible for 1-on-1 services. Initial below:

What if I'm not eligible?

With over 20 years of serving the artist community and their partners, we know how fluid this career path can be. Our mission drives us to stay engaged with artists and informed of their needs in this ever-changing environment.
