Porter's Call has a new home!

As of April 1, 2006, we've moved. Our new office is located at 327 Third Ave. South in downtown Franklin. Sitting adjacent to the railroad tracks, the historic house called Pioneer Corner (built in 1870) was the former home of the railroad foreman.

Rescued from demolition in 1976 by the Heritage Foundation, the place has had various uses since then, but has not been lived in for 25 years. During the last year, the Foundation has been looking for a non-profit who would rent it and take part in making it a beautiful home again. And so we signed the lease (saving us $3500 a year in rent!) and began the task of making it home.

Artists (accompanied by husbands and wives) joined us for a clean-up day and two paint days, putting in a total of 150 hours of sweat equity. In addition, the Heritage Foundation is investing $8,000 into getting it up to speed. With all the work, the house has been transformed to a warm and inviting place.

In addition to the main house, there is a cottage that sits behind it. The cottage has one main room, a kitchen/dining area, and a bath. We've decided to use this place as an artist retreat house. (It will be ready for use by September). Our plan is to make it available to artists on a daily basis as a place to come for prayer, study, songwriting, and reflection. (We'll be sending out more information on it at a later date, including a "Name the Cottage" contest).

Come by to visit us someday soon. We'd love to have you!
